CONTEST GUIDELINES
- For the purposes of this competition “Art in the Round” is defined as original, creative interpretations of the basic vessel form – including bowls, platters, vases, teapots, urns, cups/mugs, and other artful vessel forms.
- The seven media categories include glass, ceramics, metal, wood, basketry, gourds, and mixed/other media.
- $25 entry fee is required.
- The full entry fee will be donated to your favorite community art program. See details.
- You may submit up to 3 works per entry.
- You may enter as many times as you would like but all works must be unique and may not be duplicated in previous and/or following entries. Entry fee applies to each entry. Fee waiver, where applicable, may only be applied once per artist.
- Your submissions must be your own work, original in conception and execution and must have been created by you within the past 3 years.
- Collaborations are acceptable but must be entered as a team. Cash awards for collaborations will be divided among team members.
- Entry begins June 1, 2008. Deadline is August 25, 2008. No entries will be accepted after deadline.
- All submissions will be in the form of digital images. No slides, printed images, or actual works of art will be accepted. See “Image Requirements”, below, for details.
- Online entries are preferred. If you do not wish to enter online, please click on Prospectus and use the mail-in entry form. Mail-in entries must be postmarked by entry deadline.
- As administrator of the 2008 Art in the Round Contest, BeautifulBowls.com reserves the right to exclude submissions that do not meet our criteria for image quality or the Art in the Round theme. Entry fees for excluded submissions are non-refundable.
- While artists retain copyrights to their images, BeautifulBowls.com reserves sole and irrevocable right to reproduce submitted images for the purpose of display, advertisement, and promotion of this and future Art in the Round competitions, and for any other purpose related to the competition without the consent of the artist.
- BeautifulBowls.com reserves the right to cancel all or any portion of the 2008 Art in the Round Contest if factors beyond our control detrimentally affect the secure or fair administration of the competition or if participation is limited. Should the competition be cancelled for any reason, entry fees will be refunded.
- Should competition guidelines change for any reason, contest administrators will attempt to contact you via the email address you provide but will not be held liable should you fail to receive or view such notification.
THE JURY PROCESS
- Through various publications and online venues, the public is invited to participate in the jury process. Public input will determine one First Place winner in each media category and one State Finalist from each state.
- First Place winners in each media category qualify for the final leg of the competition, Best of Show, which will be awarded November 30, 2008.
- Best of Show will be juried, in part, by the public and final decision will be made by a panel of judges selected by BeautifulBowls.com (to be announced).
- Invite your family and friends to be a part of the voting process! Ask them to join the Jury Pool.
AWARDS
- Each State Finalist will be recognized in press releases, various online venues, and may be featured in other publications.
- FIRST PLACE winner within each media category will receive a $500 cash award and will be recognized in press releases, various online venues, and may be featured in other publications.
- Best of Show winner will receive a $3,000 cash award and will be recognized in press releases, various online venues, and may be featured in other publications.
IMAGE REQUIREMENTS
- Medium to high quality compression jpegs, 600x600 pixels.
- You may submit up to 2 views of each work.
- You may also submit one image of yourself. An image that incorporates you and your artwork, or you at work in the studio, is preferable. This image should be suitable for print (300 dpi) and may be used in press releases, online venues, and/or other publications.
- Please use simple, self-explanatory file names for easy identification. For instance, if your name were John Doe and you submit 2 views of a green bowl, your file names might be “jdgreenbowl1.jpg” and “jdgreenbowl2.jpg”.
- Images should be properly oriented (top of image is top of artwork).
- Images should be of good quality, in focus, and well lit.
- Make sure your artwork is well represented by limiting unnecessary background area and by providing views that best display your Art in the Round.
